Wampanoag New Year Spring is a time for being thankful for new life returning after the long winter. The Wampanoag people celebrate the herring in the spring. The herring make a long journey up the river to the ponds and lakes where they spawn. The health of the herring is an indicator of how our environment is preserved for future generations. When the herring fill the rivers and streams, it is time to plant crops and begin a new cycle or "circle" of life.
Strawberry Thanksgiving
